Human Rights Day

Today is Human Rights Day. Sixty six years ago, the 10th December 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights formed by 30 articles. Following the historical act the Assembly called upon all Member countries to publicize the text of the Declaration and "to cause it to be disseminated, displayed, read and expounded principally in schools and other educational institutions, without distinction based on political status of countries or territories".

The 30 articles include human rights related to civil and political rights, such as the right to life and liberty, freedom of expression, and equality before the law; and economic, social and cultural rights, including the right to participate in culture, the right to be treated with respect and dignity, the right to food, the right to work, and the right to education in some countries.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an essential text in our society nowadays. All of us must respect, obey and practice these articles to improve as citizens and to make a better world.
